Provides comprehensive instruction in the various methods of processing metals, plastics, ceramics, and composite materials. The book devotes several chapters to each of the major processes used in manufacturing today: casting and molding, forming, separating, conditioning, assembling, and finishing. Additional information is provided on manufacturing, automation, process planning, and total quality management (TQM). The book is extensively illustrated with photos and a large number of line drawings that clearly convey the details of important processes.

Booklist Review

The comprehensive text introduces the range of methods for processing metallic, polymeric, and ceramic materials. Organized in a logical manner, it begins with an examination of the major ``families'' of processes: casting and molding, forming, separating, conditioning, assembling, and finishing. The author discusses elements common to all processes within each family, then presents specific processing methods for each of the industrial materials covered. He also includes sections on the nature of manufacturing and on process design and control. An introductory text suitable for advanced secondary/postsecondary schools that offer industrial manufacturing courses machine and tool technology, manufacturing technology, and the like. Index.
