Booklist Review

The only problem with doughcraft is the dry-hand syndrome; hours of handling this salt-infused clay can wrinkle and chap fingers. Nonetheless, interior designer Hughes resurrects the art with some unusual projects--an elaborate toy garland, a heart-and-dove mobile, even Santa-topped napkin rings, for instance. At every stage, alternatives are offered, from using bread instead of flour to employing different implements to create certain effects and designs. All 20 patterns are shaped simply and colored brightly; most can be copied by starting doughcrafters. A good supplement to the existing literature. --Barbara Jacobs
