Summary

Summary

Diversity is the spice of life, and the highly regarded Cultures of the World series celebrates just that in fully updated, and expanded editions. As has always been true of these outstanding titles, an abundance of vibrant photographs -- including those new to this edition -- stimulate the imaginations of young readers as they travel the globe. A new chapter on the environment focuses on politics and economics as well as on endangered species and the effects of industrialization. Additional authentic recipes add general interest while new maps offer further, easy-to-find facts in "About the Geography, " "About the Culture" and "About the Economy" sections.

Reviews 1

School Library Journal Review

Gr 5-9-Broad overviews of each country's culture, geography, and history. The clearly presented, easy-to-understand texts discuss government, economy, people, lifestyles, religion, language, arts and leisure, festivals, and food. The logical sequence of the material makes it inviting and user-friendly. In addition, copious colorful photographs and reproductions complement and reinforce the facts presented. A local recipe may inspire further investigation of the culture. A "Quick Notes" page in each volume lists important facts and provides students with a handy referral and access to material. Appealing, informative, and engaging resources for reports.-Susan Shaver, Hemingford Public Schools, NE (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
