Booklist Review

Gr. 6^-9. Both ends of the crime spectrum are examined in these entries in the popular Crime, Justice and Punishment series. Unsolved Crimes covers such infamous cases as Jack the Ripper, the Zodiac killer, the Tylenol murders, and the Kennedy assassination. Black-and-white photos of police drawings, newspaper headlines, and battered victims, along with each case's gory details will have a good deal of appeal for some readers. White-Collar Crime, stories of "criminals with clean fingernails," takes on the more complicated task of explaining frauds, hoaxes, and computer hackings. The direct text argues that betraying the public trust is as much a crime as cold-blooded murder. Appropriate photos give face to these often victimless crimes. Following series format, each book has a good index and a bibliography. Useful additions to school and public libraries that will attract some browsers. --Candace Smith
