Summary

It was the middle of winter and very, very cold. The mice of Brambly Hedge forecasted snow. And they were right. In the morning they awoke to find their doors and windows hidden behind deep drifts. There hadn't been snow like this for years. "There's enough for a Snow Ball!" cried the mice with glee, and they set to work in the time-honoured way to make an Ice Hall for the festivities. The little mice watched wide-eyed as all the preparations were made. Then at last everything was ready, and the Ball could begin...


Author Notes

Jill Barklem was born in Epping, The United Kingdom in 1951. She studied illustration at St Martin's School of Art in London. She was the author and illustrator of the Brambly Hedge series about a community of mice in the English countryside. Her books included Spring Story, Summer Story, Autumn Story, Winter Story, The Secret Staircase, The High Hills, Sea Story, and Poppy's Babies. In 1996, the stories were adapted into a television show. She died following a long illness on November 15, 2017 at the age of 66.
