Booklist Review

Gr. 4^-7. Collard begins with a personal story of an encounter with an eagle, an experience that elevated his interest in birds of prey from indifference to fascination. In the chapters that follow, the book discusses what all birds of prey have in common and introduces North American raptors such as eagles, hawks, kites, ospreys, falcons, and vultures. Illustrated with many color photographs and designed with fairly large type and generous use of white space, the book provides an attractive, clearly written overview. Appendixes include an engaging "Note on Sources," a glossary, and lists of books, organizations, and Web sites. A good introduction to the subject. --Carolyn Phelan
