This Fifth Edition is uniquely helpful when it becomes necessary to select a new solvent on a competitive or comparative basis; when the customary solvent, employed hitherto, might no longer be available, or can no longer be used because of environmental reasons; or when prices have risen to such an extent that an existing process must be redesigned to make it economically feasible again.

The over 1,200 tables in this book contain basic data on the physical properties of most solvents and on the solubilities of a variety of materials in these solvents. Even phase diagrams for multicomponent systems are included. Particularly valuable are the comparative data for various solvents in the last chapter.

This handbook is a revised and expanded reference volume (3rd ed., 1985; 4th ed., 1991), principally designed for the chemical processing industry but useful for anyone needing data on industrial solvents. It is helpful for selection of new solvents when the original solvent is no longer available, environmentally inappropriate, or economically impractical. There are more than 1200 tables with basic data on physical properties and solubilities of a variety of materials in the solvents. Included are phase diagrams for multicomponent systems and HPLC and UV data for a variety of solvents. The material in the tables was selected by Editor Flick from manufacturers' literature; these data are referenced following the title. A complete set of references is found together with a trade name index. The table of contents, organized by chemical groups, serves as an index. Researchers, faculty, and professionals. J.
