School Library Journal Review

Gr 3-5-These visually appealing texts are welcome additions. The colorful and diverse photos and illustrations draw readers in and capture the spirit of the countries. Poland offers a little bit of history, but the majority of the book looks at modern life and includes such topics as the importance of Catholicism, Polish food, education, and family life. Costa Rica also includes a short history section that details the landing of Columbus in 1502 and the indigenous population and culture. The rest of the book discusses such subjects as the rain forest, soccer, and life in the city. Useful glossaries and pronunciation guides will help students with unfamiliar foreign words.-Kristen Oravec, Cuyahoga County Public Library, Strongsville, OH (c) Copyright 2010.
