Library Journal Review

This is a thoroughly comprehensive volume that covers all aspects of the sport of canoeing. Starting off with the history of the sport, gardening-book author Swenson (Starting Over) focuses on a multitude of subjects, such as the various types of canoes and equipmentDthe canoes themselves and varieties of paddles. He also makes recommendations regarding suitable clothing and gear as well as providing information on canoe camping and outings. There are chapters on safety while canoeing and information on where one may take classes and participate in excursions depending upon degree of expertise. The book includes many diagrams and color illustrations and, not surprisingly, more than a few references to the availability of the gear at L.L. Bean. An excellent book; recommended for all libraries.DRobert E Greenfield, formerly with Baltimore Cty. P.L. (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
