Summary

Interweaving scripture, paraphrase and garden imagery, Karla Dornacher writes and illustrates a beautiful botanical book of devotional thoughts that explore God's handiwork as the Master Gardener in the heart-gardens of His people. An ideal gift book for women who enjoy gardening or for any woman seeking to "grow, blossom and bear much fruit" in her walk with God.

Excerpts

Excerpt The Lord God planted a garden I saw an ad in the paper for a class on how to become a "master gardener." I love to garden, but if you come to visit my garden you would find that I am much more of a dabbler than a "master"! * * * In fact, God is the only true Master Gardener. * * * He not only created the first garden, He also created you and the spiritual "garden of your heart." His desire is for you to be a strong, healthy, well-watered garden - even in the midst of the "weeds, thistles, and thorns" of daily life. He longs for you to be firmly rooted and established in His love and to be able to recognize the touch of His hand as He labors in the spiritual garden of your life: tilling, planting, watering, and weeding. * * * Is there an area of your life that needs the special touch of the Master's hand? Call to Him today. Ask Him to make a beautiful, bountiful garden of your life for it is His pleasure and delight to watch you grow, blossom, and bear much fruit! Let the whole earth be filled with His glory Psalm 72:19 There are many "gates" along life's way that open to fields of thorny thistles, tangled weeds, and briar woods. But there is only one gate that opens into the presence of the Master Gardener - and Jesus is that Gate! * * * If you are feeling overgrown with the challenges of daily life, weary of pulling out the weeds of the world, or tired of the path you are walking ... open the Gate! Invite God to come into the garden of your heart through faith in Jesus Christ. Ask Him to be the Master Gardener of your life. * * * He wants to meet with you there in the quiet places and walk with you as your closest friend. He wants to plant roses where there are weeds, remove the rocks that cause you to stumble, and water the dry and barren places of your life with His love and blessings. Enter His gates with thanksgiving Psalm 100:4 We are to God the fragrance of Christ Frangrant Prayer Potpourri Choose any and all of these ingredients, for they compliment each other well. Simply mix together with an abundance of love and faith - anytime, night or day. Worship Praising God because He is worthy Submission Desiring Gods will and not your own Petition Praying for your own needs Intercession Praying for the needs of others Forgiveness Seeking God's forgiveness for yourself Forgiving those who have hurt or offended you Thanksgiving Thanking God for all He does and who He is Beautiful blooms and a bountiful harvest require good soil. In the Bible, Jesus uses a word picture of garden dirt to help us understand how the beauty and the bounty of our character, our life, and our deeds are dependent upon the condition of our heart soil. The seed of God's Word requires good soil to germinate, take root, grow deep, and bear abundant fruit. Good heart soil is an ongoing, never-ending process. As you open your heart to the tender hand of the Master Gardener, He is able to till the hard places, remove the rocks, and pull up the weeds of the world that would entangle and choke out the life of His love. * * * Take time to cultivate your relationship with the Master Gardener. Ask Him to show you any areas of your heart soil where you need to let go and let Him work. Seek to be the beautiful and bountiful garden He designed you to be. Search me O God, and know my heart Jesus, I want the garden of my life to be as beautiful and as bountiful as You. Create in me a rich and fertile heart soil, O God, and clean out every weed that keeps me from enjoying Your presence and bringing You glory. There are vegetable gardens and perennial gardens, gardens to attract butterflies, and some designed for their perfume. As you pour over the seed catalogs and garden books, you must ask yourself what is the purpose of your garden. What do you want to reap from your garden plot? This will determine the seed that you sow. You can then choose the perfect seeds to produce the bounty you desire. The Bible is the book of inspiration for gardeners of the heart. There you will come to know and love the Master Gardener and delight in His wisdom. Its pages are filled with seeds of promise and hope. As you open your heart, He will plant in you the perfect seeds to produce a rich and fulfilling garden-life. And while you are there you will also be inspired by stories of other gardeners who planted seeds of faith and patience and reaped abundant harvests of God's grace and goodness. As God's Word takes root and grows in your heart it will naturally begin to blossom and bear fruit. It is through the fruit of your words, attitudes, and deeds that you become a partner with the Master Gardener, scattering the seeds of His love in the lives of others. (Continues...)
