School Library Journal Review

Gr 5-8‘Although Brad and his mother have moved frequently, he is happy with his life in the small Canadian town in which they have lived for six months. At 14, he finally feels in control of his life. His father is coming home and his mother doesn't want Brad asking questions about where the man has been or why he was gone. Woodbury provides a few clues that might help some readers anticipate that Brad's father is a child molester. Brad is a well-developed character and he works through his problems in a believable, albeit very mature, manner. Details of his father's crime are sketchy and naive readers may not fully understand the allusions. The ending is a bit convenient as Brad's friends are immediately and fully supportive of him. Overall, however, this is an interesting, well-told story about a young man who deals with the realities of a less-than-perfect universe.‘Jeanette Larson, Texas State Library, Austin (c) Copyright 2010.
