School Library Journal Review

K-Gr 4-This very brief audio time travel featuring The Medicine Man YaYa, gives tribute to notable African-Americans. Harriet Tubman, George Washington Carver, Mary McCloud Bethune, Rosa Parks, and Grandville T. Woods are featured in song and verse. The opening number, "Libation," is lively and inspirational. The excellent "Harriet Tubman," as well as the tune "George Washington Carver," make great supplemental material for classrooms. Some of the narration between the music is stilted and talks down to children. The rhymes on "Grandville T. Woods" don't work. At under 20 minutes in length, this recording is extremely short compared to other children's recordings. However, until a better product hits the market, this project will meet the need of celebrating these African-Americans.-Rob Reid, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire/Eau Claire Public Library (c) Copyright 2010.
