School Library Journal Review

Gr 5-8-This book introduces 10 women who work with animals, including a veterinarian, pet sitter, horse-farm owner, bird handler, exotic-animal trainer, marine-mammal curator, and ostrich farmer. Each profile traces its subject's schooling, work history, personal life, and thoughts about her job. "Career Checklists" help readers decide if this type of work might interest them. The book also provides information on salaries, educational requirements, and internships. Suggestions for further reading and a list of professional organizations conclude the book. Although the pink-toned photos of the featured individuals are grainy and difficult to make out, the black-and-white photos of animals are clear and appealing. The open, eye-catching layout will attract browsers.-Darlene Powell, St. Stephens School, WY (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
