Library Journal Review

In gambling vernacular, Glazer wants the best of it. A sometime professional backgammon, poker, and blackjack player who paid his college and law school tuition with his winnings, he is conservative by nature and anticasino in attitude, and what he calls gambling the smart way means knowing that the casino has the winning percentage. Written in outline format, this book is intended for the novice, amateur, or recreational player stuck in a gamblers abyss. Unfortunately, it fails to deliver on its promises. Gambling literature should be informative, mathematically and statistically geared, or entertainingly anecdotal. This book meets none of the requirements and occasionally has a sour-grapes tone. Perhaps he fails to realize that people gamble for various reasons and that fantasy is acceptable as long as you realize the casino is a business using psychological means to earn money. Anyone who wants to gamble the smart way should start with a more positive attitude and material with personality (such as Scarnes New Complete Guide to Gambling, 1986).
