Summary

Summary

This completely revised third edition of the Dictionary of Ecology and the Environment includes some 8,000 main headwords.
Problems concerning the environment and conservation are becoming ever more important, no longer the concern only of activists but now a major concern of governments around the world. The Dictionary covers all aspects of ecology and the environment, including pollution, climatology, endangered species, waste disposal, and environmental protection.
Individual headword entries include phonetic pronunciation guides, quotations, and examples, and the Dictionary also includes tables of endangered species and disasters.

Reviews 1

Choice Review

The very brief, succinct entries in this dictionary cover a broad range of the terminology of ecology and environmental science. Lexical definitions are augmented selectively through the use of quotations or comments. Pronunciation is indicated and abbreviations are expanded. Names of organizations are identified but individuals are excluded. A supplement includes lists of endangered species (flora and fauna) and of recent major natural and man-made disasters. Although this dictionary cannot stand alone, by adding to the understanding of ecology it is a useful addition to the reference shelf. Recommended for all levels. N. L. Powell; Catholic University of America
