Library Journal Review

The ancient needlecraft of appliqu‚ takes on a new form in the hands of Anderson. She begins by tracing dramatic, well-lit photos of her subject, then cuts and appliqu‚s cloth to create somewhat realistic images. Her work falls somewhere between quilting and portraiture, with a little abstract art thrown in. Anderson expertly guides the student through photography, tracing, lighting effects, and the details of stitching eyes and mouths. Her "features" here also include those of animals. A fine follow-up to Anderson's Faces and Places: Images in Appliqu‚ (C&T, 1995). (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
