Enjoy the inspiration of cross-stitch projects that draw on Bible themes. Some echo the glory of cathedral stained glass and Old Masters; others draw upon Early American samplers that taught children both their ABCs and their manners. Imaginative Christmas designs feature The Road To Bethlehem, Mary and the Christ-Child, and the Nativity. Other themes from the life of Christ include Jesus and the Children, The Last Supper, and The Lion and the Lamb. A heavenly host of angels also appear, including adorable Puppy, Squirrel, Bear, Bunny, and Kitten angels. A Family Tree, a Little Red Church, and Noah's Ark add to the variety -- 32 in all.

Booklist Review

The title means what it implies: 32 designs centered on the Bible, the New Testament, and general notions of Christian living. With that kind of specificity, readers should expect some overlap in patterns--two of Noah's Ark, for instance, and any number of Nativity events. Freelance illustrator Barber has, indeed, pegged her audience well; each of the designs, from a cocker spaniel with wings to a bear sampler, includes color graphs and detailed lists of stitches and colors (in the DMC and Anchor brand varieties). Most are intended for more experienced fingers, though level of difficulty is not indicated anywhere. Metric conversion table appended. --Barbara Jacobs
