Booklist Review

This isn't quite Everything You Wanted to Know about Doors and Gates but Were Afraid to Ask, but it comes close. Most people who own homes tend to head down to their local building-supply store and get prehung doors or fencing. The Bridgewaters suggest that the average woodworker has the tools and skills to make custom pieces that would be far better than the store-bought kind. The illustrations may not be totally up to snuff, but enough inspiration is provided to spur the creation of a custom door that will produce door-envy in the neighbors. And once that custom door is successfully hung, turn to the second part of the book for help in fencing the yard (yes, it is supposed to be just about gates, but it doesn't require much of a leap of faith to see that it is about fences, too). Consider this a unique book on a couple of topics other books seldom cover. --Jon Kartman
