Library Journal Review

The National Institute on Deafness reports that an estimated three to five million people in the United States have Meniere's disease, characterized by hearing loss, vertigo, and either tinnitus or ear fullness. This vestibular (inner ear) disorder has no known cause or cure. Haybach, a registered nurse, fills a gap for the general reader by supplying comprehensive information on Meniere's history, anatomy and physiology, testing, conventional and alternative treatments, research, coping strategies, insurance issues, and resources for further material (including a plug for librarians). In addition to a glossary, terms are clearly defined throughout the text, which is logically organized with charts, lists, and tabular data. The helpful index denotes definitions with bold page numbers and illustrations with italicized page numbers. Recommended for consumer health collections.‘Dixie Jones, Louisiana State Univ, Medical Ctr., Shreveport (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
