Booklist Review

Gr. 4^-8. Thirteen Christmas carols in simple arrangements for piano, guitar, and voice are displayed in picture-book format. The carols are illustrated with high-quality reproductions of paintings from a variety of historical periods--from the Renaissance to the Victorian era to the present--which makes for a nicely diverse presentation. Such traditional religious favorites as "Silent Night" and "O Come All Ye Faithful" are here, along with a few lesser-known carols, such as "The Holly and the Ivy." The collection concludes with "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." Like the perennially popular illustrated songbook Go in and out the Window (1978), this is both practical to use and inviting to browse. Adults will be as interested as young musicians. --Susan Dove Lempke
