Library Journal Review

Not a how-to book, this is a well-developed history of polo, from its ancient beginnings to modern times, with beautiful photographs of the game in action. (For a book on learning to play polo, see Steven D. Price & Charles Kauffman's The Polo Primer: A Guide for Players and Spectators LJ 2/1/89.) The authors describe in detail the international set of people involved in polo, dwelling on the groupies and famous people who follow the game (of whom there are too many photos, as well). This is a nice picture book, but the amount of space devoted to people, and not the game or the horses, will annoy horsepeople. Libraries with equine interests, or wide-ranging sports collections, should consider.-- Leslie A. Bleil, Western Michigan Univ., Kalamazoo (c) Copyright 2010.
