Booklist Review

Romacen writer April Halstead has recently returned to Turn-Coupe, the Louisiana town where she grew up and fell in passionate love with Luke Benedict only to leave him at the altar when she learned of his indiscretions. Naturally, their paths cross again, but the circumstances are dire: someone is threatening April, and Luke has taken it upon himself to protect her at all costs, whether she likes it or not. She doesn't, but Luke is not discouraged. Finally, after a serious attempt on her life, Luke kidnaps April and takes her deep into the swamp, where she rediscovers her feelings for him. Blake's writing is steamy and sensual as she makes the swamp come alive as a place of unexpected beauty and many secrets, the perfect setting for rekindled love. The second in her Turn-Coupe series, this should appeal to readers of Nora Roberts. (Reviewed March 15, 1999)1551664909Ann Bouricius

Publisher's Weekly Review

In the second installment of her Turn-Coupe, La., series (after Kane), Blake introduces her newest heroine, famed romance author April Halstead. April's life is threatened when she decides to use one of Luke Benedict's ancestors in her latest book. Although Luke's family would prefer that April "not stir up something that could rear up and bite them," Luke feels obligated to protect her, presumably because the pair had once been high school sweethearts. When April ends up on the wrong end of some nasty phone calls, a drive-by shooting and a boat explosion, Luke whisks her off in his luxurious pontoon boat where the inevitable love affair begins. Their idyllic respite is short-lived when they are discovered; soon, April is forced to draw upon her own resources to save herself. Blake offers countless insights into the joys and torments of being a popular author. (Mar.) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved
