School Library Journal Review

PreS-Gr 2‘A ferocious and famished polka-dot beast will eat anything and everything until a piglet warns him that his prized hide is about to burst. The piglet even volunteers to be a nutrition coach. It is a struggle, but the once-rotund monster becomes svelte and healthy. A funny idea falls flat due to a sophomoric, awkward narration. The text is composed of forced, choppy rhymes. Bright, multicolored double-page spreads featuring the lip-smacking, pop-eyed beast are playful and appealing, but unspectacular. They are definitely not enough to compensate for the feeble text.‘Heide Piehler, Shorewood Public Library, WI (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
