On Order

Private detective handles a case close to home when he mounts a search for the man who shot him and a local doctor outside the doctor's office while it was under protest. Who was the bullet really meant for? And what was the telephone message all about that the doctor had left for Zachariah just before they were both shot, and before Zachariah had time to ask her any questions? Did she know whose life was in danger? Was she trying to warn Zacharian, or hire him to protect her?

Library Journal Review

A private investigator in a small Oregon town, Zachariah Smith attempts to find the person who shot him and killed a local doctor (known occasionally to perform abortions) during an anti-abortion confrontation. Smith scoffs at the idea of himself as the intended target until certain subsequent telephone calls, repeated vandalism of his car and office, and the murder of a homeless informant change his mind. The case of a 15-year-old runaway suffering possible parental abuse, meanwhile, diverts his attention. Thrasher's work (Cat's Paw, Inc., LJ 7/91) reveals a talent for brisk prose, spirited action, and energetic plotting. A solid addition to any collection. (c) Copyright 2010.
